The book, scheduled to be published this summer, will be the official source of the new Medical Meetings Professional certification.

Caledonia, Wisconsin (June 28, 2023) – Meetings & Incentives Worldwide, Inc. is co-authoring an educational book, How to Plan Medical Meetings and Events, covering the fundamentals of medical meeting planning. It has been accepted as the official and sole source for Meeting Professional International’s new Medical Meetings Professional (MMP) certification.

“Our goal is to create the most comprehensive book yet on medical meeting planning,” said Jill Gallagher, Vice President, Event Management Services, M&IW. “It is written by a team of M&IW’s subject-matter experts, each contributing their knowledge on a specific area of focus related to medical meetings and events.”

Co-authoring the book is Pat Schaumann, CMP, CSEP, DMCP, HMCC. Having developed MPI’s Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC) program, Pat is intimately aware of the challenges facing medical meeting planners and is excited to contribute her experience to the book and the new MMP certification.

“Pat and our team have so much practical knowledge and technical expertise from years of planning world-class medical meetings and events,” said Tina Madden, CEO, M&IW. “By sharing it with the world, we hope to create better medical meetings and, in doing so, improve patient care around the world.”

How to Plan Medical Meetings and Events will be available as an e-book and in print later this year.

The Importance of a Medical Meeting Planning Resource

While medical meetings have always come with additional planning requirements and compliance challenges, there are a few key reasons this book is especially relevant to today’s event industry.

  • With over one million medical meetings planned for 2023 in the US alone, the industry is poised for continued growth worldwide.
  • The events industry has seen an influx of new talent as well as organizational restructuring that saw veteran planners transitioning to medical events for the first time.
  • The availability of hospitality and event planning classes in colleges and universities has declined in recent years, necessitating a resource for planners just starting out in their career.
  • M&IW already places great emphasis on continued learning, so it was a natural progression to apply employees’ collective knowledge and expertise to aid others in continuing education.

“This resource is important because training for new medical meeting planners ensures professionalism, competence, and adherence to industry standards,” said Pat Schaumann, CMP, CSEP, DMCP, HMCC. “It enhances the quality of medical meetings, promotes participant safety, and contributes to the success of these important events in the healthcare field.”
