In the Buyer’s Eye – Top Incentive Destinations

Unsurprisingly, the demand for domestic travel has skyrocketed this year and for 2022. The United States not only topped the list in gold medals during the 2021 Olympic Summer Games, it is also claiming gold with the propitious timing of new properties.

Seeing the return of incentive travel is incredibly rewarding! Our customers are so excited to once again be able to inspire, motivate, and reward their top performers through the gift of travel and unique experiences. However, we are also keeping an eye on properties that may not be fully prepared to ensure the level of service required for our customers’ high-end incentive programs.

All it takes is some out-of-the-box thinking to ensure smooth planning and an amazing trip—that’s where we come in. As we look to the future, our team of incentive destination experts leverages experience, knowledge, and data to consult with our clients on the best options based on their goals, desires, and budget.

Novel and Unique Incentive Travel Destinations

If you’re looking for a novel and unique destination, we’ve highlighted a few of our favorites below. Smaller properties, resort dining credits instead of planned meals, and individual activities will allow everyone to ease back into travel while appeasing all comfort levels. Also, as you design your incentive trip, keep in mind that sometimes the best reward you can offer is more free time for individuals to explore on their own. These majestic destinations offer that and so much more!

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Incentive Destination Bishops Lodge

Bishop’s Lodge, An Auberge Resorts Collection

Santa Fe is an exciting, emerging destination that sits at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and is surrounded by high desert. The addition of Bishop’s Lodge, An Auberge Resorts Collection, took Santa Fe to the next level. This 100-room resort with a village-like layout dates back to the 1860s, when Santa Fe’s first archbishop built a chapel and lodge on the 317-acre site. It reopened in July 2021 after a 75-million-dollar restoration.

Some unique features include the original chapel; a walled garden that is positioned at the end of the 3,000-square-foot function space, the Lodge Hall; and a variety of accommodations, each with a signature look and feel.

This experience-inclusive resort offers biking, fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and a lovely spa on property and is only 15 minutes from the art, culture, and vibrant culinary scene of downtown Santa Fe. Whether for a smaller incentive or for exclusive use, Bishop’s Lodge is an excellent choice.

Big Sky, Montana

Incentive Destination Big Sky Montana

Montage Big Sky

Wondering how to get to Big Sky, Montana? It’s much easier than you may think: There are now over 40 nonstop flights to Big Sky from more than 30 destinations, making this a very connected mountain resort. Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is only a one-hour transfer to Montage Big Sky—and with such scenic views along the way, the hour will fly by! Opening in November 2021, this property will have 110 rooms and suites plus residences.

With ski-in/ski-out and golf-in/golf-out, ski destinations are now year-round and are increasingly popular. Another plus? Yellowstone National Park is only a 45-minute drive away. Summer or winter, Montage Big Sky promises a 5-star mountain experience full of luxury, adventure, and excitement.

Jackson, Wyoming

Incentive Destination Cloudveil

The Cloudveil, A Marriott Autograph Collection

This newly built yet timeless hotel in the heart of Jackson opened in May 2021. Because it was modeled after the oldest building on the Town Square, it fits in beautifully with the architecture of the city yet is still unique in so many ways. Its prominent location in the center of town provides easy access to Jackson attractions, but it takes mere minutes to get to the mountains. A majority of the furnishings are from local artists, giving it the most authentic and indigenous feel—not to mention, it’s a great giveback to local artisans after a very tough year.

Although not yet rated, The Cloudveil is expected to receive 4 stars from Forbes. It offers a total of 96 guest rooms and suites, a stunning rooftop terrace that overlooks Jackson’s Town Square (hint: it can be reserved for exclusive use!), outdoor space with firepits, and an outdoor pool and hot tub. Easy to get to—Jackson Hole offers direct service from many major airlines—and perfect for everything from relaxing to enjoying the great outdoors, this destination-inspired boutique hotel is certainly worthy of consideration for any smaller incentives.
