Employee Spotlight: Linsey Giant Takes the Stage

At M&IW, we are proud that our team members are recognized as subject matter experts across the industry. Last month, the spotlight was on Jake Runnion and his session at Event Tech Live. Now, we’re thrilled to share that Linsey Giant, Principal Consultant, Intent Strategy Group (ISG), recently presented on small meetings and events at the 2023 MPI World Education Congress (WEC). With around 1,700 registered attendees, it is one of the top educational and networking conferences for event planners, suppliers, and other industry professionals.

Co-presented with the retired Chief Customer Officer of Bizly, Kevin Iwamoto, GLP, GTP, Linsey’s session was titled Small Meeting Myths Debunked. They shared how to identify potential issues and solutions to streamline planning and managing small events, find the data needed to justify expenditures on planning and technology, and ask and answer the right questions when looking for a turnkey solution like Simplified+. “There were so many incredible moments at WEC23,” said Linsey. “It was truly hard to pick which session to go to; there were so many great choices. I’m so grateful that MPI gave me the opportunity to present at this world-class conference.”

We sat down with Linsey to hear more about her experience and learn about her role at M&IW.

Congratulations on presenting at WEC23! Aside from your session, what were your favorite moments or key takeaways from the event?

I really enjoyed their Marketplace to meet with various suppliers. It was nicely spaced out and not too large, and each vendor had a really unique set-up versus just a six-foot table. Also, one of the keynote speakers, Gaby Natale, was inspiring. She spoke about turning discomfort into a wake-up call for transformational leadership and personal growth. She reminded us that pioneers and visionaries are ordinary people who choose to see themselves and the world in extraordinary ways.

Another session I really enjoyed was called The Party Scientist with Jacques W. Martiquet. It was a joy learning how to have a different take on connecting at meetings and events (and in life) by TRULY connecting, not surface level engagement like ice breakers and small talk. We did some uncomfortable stuff like a long hug with someone we had never met and playing spy games with each other and dancing. I almost walked out at the beginning, but I’m so glad I stayed and got past feeling uncomfortable. I left feeling so joyful and connected! At Meetings & Incentives Worldwide, so much hard work is put in by all, but fun, joy, laughter, and connection are encouraged from the top down.

Tell us about your role at M&IW. When did you start and what is your current role?

I started in September of 2019 as a Meetings Management Consultant for ISG and just recently was promoted to Principal Consultant in January of 2023. I provide strategic meetings management consulting and project management support for client engagements.

What do you enjoy most about your position at M&IW?

I have a passion for building relationships and driving innovative solutions. I also enjoy guiding clients to solutions that will have a significant impact on their overall organization and company.

What advice would you give someone hoping to start a career in meetings and events?

There are so many different types of jobs in this industry. So, I would advise trying to network with others in the industry and trying to get a feel for the various opportunities out there to find what aligns with your interests and passions.

What is a new trend that you hope becomes an industry norm?

Work/life balance and putting one’s health first.

What is something most people wouldn’t know about you?

I absolutely love sports! Watching, playing, and talking about sports.
